Music
The High School Choral Music Department has established a reputation for excellence in performance throughout Southern California. Our high school choirs have been selected to perform in numerous Invitational Choral Festivals. We have a Concert Choir of mixed voices that is an auditioned group. We also offer a select choir for students who are at the advanced level of musical understanding as well as performance. The men’s choir and women’s ensembles are created out of the Concert Choir students. Our program offers the students a broad spectrum of musical styles. They will study and perform sacred music ranging from Gregorian chant to Renaissance, Baroque, Classical, Romantic and Contemporary. In addition, students will study and perform Gospel and Negro Spirituals.
The ensemble is a valuable asset. Students learn the importance of the ensemble. How they treat each other in the ensemble is a mirror of how they will treat their peers in the community. We work as a team to find Christ in the center of every piece of music. Students participating in the high school program are busy all year with performances both on the campus and abroad. Students leave Hillcrest well prepared for a major in Music Education or Performance. Every year seniors are preparing for scholarship auditions.
Theatre
Theatre classes are offered at the high school level as electives. The beginning class studies the history of drama and experiment with various techniques to grow their ability. The advance class is a performance class. Students produce and perform two major productions per year. Check the calendar for upcoming events.
